After a lot of transatlantic effort we launched InStyle’s UK website last night.
On the surface it looks like a close cousin of the parent InStyle.com site in the US but there have been many changes to make it more suitable for a predominantly UK audience. The site editor is Maria Milano, who flew out to New York just 24 hours after starting at IPC in February to join us for key build meetings; it’s been just as busy since.
It’s great to see InStylemagazine.co.uk live; as has been pointed out many times over the Internet is still relatively undeveloped for female audiences and we have high hopes for InStyle online in the UK.
Working on this launch with the Time Inc Interactive team in New York has provided plenty of opportunity for swapping notes. The platforms we work on are unalike (Oracle/Vignette in the US, PHP/MySQL-based in-house built CMS in the UK) and the scale of the operation is also very different (given that the TII folks look after sites such as Time.com and People.com. However, many of the development challenges seem uncannily similar on both sides of the pond and the learnings identical.
This is our second major launch of the year following Country Life in February. There’s much more to come this year but if I revealed all here I’d have to shoot this blog’s reader…and that’s not a nice thing to do to your mum!
