The July edition of the BMF Magazine is out now. In it we cover a number of topics, most strikingly an account from all of the living BMF presidents that we could get hold of to record recollections about their time in office. My thanks to Tracey Clarke for many hours getting that all together.
As for the rest photographer Simon Jones not only shot the front cover image but also brought along his two daughters, Leyna and Claudia, who are scarily intelligent and good in front of the camera too – I guess they get lots of practice!
It was fun visiting Scanstrut for this issue – I know the name well but hadn’t realised what an operation the company now has in Totnes. And because I was down there I also visited Loris and Anne Goring, close friends from Motor Boats Monthly days, who I haven’t seen in years.
Formanda played host to Caroline Dinenage MP for an interview that gave some really interesting insight into some of the regeneration activities in the Gosport area. With Formanda in Haslar it feels like a second home down there and hence it was more than a bit interesting to hear about investment in HMS Daedalus and other activities. Around 1982 or so I used to do van deliveries to this airfield and remember having to wait at a set of traffic lights by the side of the runway while a De Havilland Devon landed!
