For example I visited Arthur Bennett of Willowtree Marina to follow up his suggestion that we feature crowdfunding as an up and coming source of finance for businesses starved of bank cash. We spoke about that, but then strayed onto his plans to place his marina at the heart of a business hub for the local community. I found the concept exciting and it will be very interesting to see how Arthur and his team get on over the next few months and years as they expand activity from a children’s nursery to a bistro and coffee shop and beyond.
Also in the issue is a feature on Paul Wagstaffe’s more than three decades working for the Federation. Research for this involved spending a whole day boating with Paul on his Aquafibre 28-6 Wagtail X on the Thames – one of the most relaxing and enjoyable days I have had for a long time.
Less relaxing was compiling a page of employment law updates. A bit of a stark reminder that, despite the promises of cutting red tape, there’s still plenty out there to trip you up.
