For some time now we had been looking at the logo for du Pré plc. Formed in 1979, the company can claim to be the oldest privately owned telecommunications company in the UK and its current logo has served it well for many years.
Times change however. For some time now du Pré has been pioneering the business use of VoIP (Voice over IP telephones) and has been working much more in the IT arena.
The brief was to maintain a link to the trusted heritage of the company, but to provide a modern look that reflected the way in which it is working with businesses and schools across the UK.
Working on that premise (and always remembering the clever evolution of the Shell logo), I ran through many iterations of how the du Pré ‘windmill’ and colours might still be incorporated. In the end it emerged in a completely new form as a laurel leaf, but one with a forward thrusting element in the action colour of red.
The strap – Technology Managed – came from consultation with the recently formed du Pré Staff Council. At the company it is what we do – taking the stress and strain and managing IT and telecoms systems away to enable people to focus on building their businesses and educating their children.
You can see the result here, along with its predecessor. We’ll be rolling this logo out over the following months but first feedback on its premier outing, at the BETT 2015 education show, has been very positive, with existing customers still recognising the brand and those not familiar with us seeing the logo as modern and bold.
